Students and Faculty Recognized During NSRT Conference

Clarkson College students and faculty demonstrated their commitment to the radiography field by earning recognition and top honors during the Nebraska Society of Radiologic Technologists (NSRT) annual conference held April 19–21 in Kearney, Neb.

Four faculty members traveled with more than 20 students to attend the conference and connect with radiography and medical imaging professionals from across the state. Attendees listened to lectures, viewed exhibits and visited with vendors to gain a deeper understanding of imaging technologies and expose themselves to new topics within the field.

Eighteen Clarkson College students presented on a wide range of topics during the Student Scientific Exhibit Competition at the conference. Krystina Schuett earned first place for her exhibit, “Neuroimaging the Physiologically Disturbed Brain,” and Kirsten Wisniewski earned second place for her exhibit, “Medical 3-D Printing.” Several students also competed in the research paper competition, and Meghan O’Grady earned third place for her article, “Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging in the Clinical Setting.”

Nine Clarkson College students tested their knowledge of radiography facts and trivia by participating in the conference’s annual Quiz Bowl. The competition pairs three-person student teams against one another and challenges opposing sides to answer questions before their opponents. Overall, the three Clarkson College teams fared well against participants from colleges and universities across Nebraska.

Students were not the only Clarkson College community members who contributed to the conference. Radiography Associate Professor Trish Weber, MHA, R.T.(R)(CT)(ARRT), and Director of Community Health and Interprofessional Education Sarah Flanagan, MSW, MPA, LCSW, gave a lecture titled, “When It Rains It Pours— Ways to Survive the Storm.” They discussed the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and the health and well-being of individuals. They also provided attendees with ways to identify strategies for building resilience and approaches to mitigate personal and professional burnout.

Clarkson College has a longstanding relationship with NSRT and supports its efforts to promote the growth of the radiography field and provide students with opportunities for advancement. Assistant Director of Radiography and Medical Imaging Shelli Weddum, MHA, R.T.(R)(ARRT), serves as a member of the NSRT Board of Directors, and Radiography Assistant Professor Kelly Eaton, M.S., R.T.(R)(ARRT)(CIIP), is the Vice President.
